Learning through service
As personal assistant to the Senior Pastor at J.C.C. Mombasa, Pastor David Lai supported the practical work of ministry: planning, travel, scheduling and preparation for major meetings.
Watch on YouTubeBased in Nairobi, Kenya, Pastor David Lai brings a personal journey of calling, struggle and restoration—and a conviction that a difficult chapter need not be the end of anyone’s story.

Pastor, author and media leader — David Mumo Lai brings a life of service, and a deeply personal story of restoration, to every conversation.
Born in Machakos and raised in Mombasa, Pastor David Lai grew up in a home where faith was part of the rhythm of everyday life. In his memoir, he recalls family prayer, a Bible kept close at hand, and the example of his parents, Pastor Wilfred and Rita Lai.
He writes with particular affection about his father’s influence: the courage of his preaching, his care for people and the trust a young boy placed in him. His mother’s faith and the family’s commitment to prayer were equally formative.
The chapter “Unveiling the Boy Preacher” describes a child drawn to Scripture and eager to share it. Those early experiences gave Pastor David Lai a sense of calling long before ministry became a professional responsibility.

Pastor David Lai’s memoir tells a candid story of promise, painful detours and a return to purpose. Alongside his teaching on anointing, he reflects on failure, rejection, the strain on family relationships and the difficult work of rebuilding trust.
His return to ministry was a process of humility, renewed study and a willingness to serve again. He describes learning to receive grace while taking responsibility for the life ahead of him.
That experience helps explain the warmth behind his message. He writes for people who feel disqualified, for those rebuilding their lives, and for families holding on to hope for someone they love.

The conversations about formation, stewardship and freedom are rooted in questions that run through Pastor David Lai’s own writing. What is God doing in a hidden season? How do we handle what has been entrusted to us? And how do we learn to live in the freedom we have received?
At the heart of his ministry is a desire to draw people closer to Christ, offer hope to the discouraged and help faith take shape in daily life.
